Why Do You Need a Fall-Friendly Skincare Routine?

Believe it or not, your skin care needs to evolve throughout the year. As the hot, humid days of the summer leave, the cooler weather of the fall sets in. Below are some things you can do during the fall to rejuvenate your skin.

Why Your Skin Needs Refreshing

As the summer temperatures drop into the fall season, you will begin to see how the harsh summer sun and fun has affected your skin. During the summer months, we are exposed to more direct sunlight, which in turn accelerates the skin’s aging process. Summertime also means having a fun time swimming in chlorine or salt water. Both chlorine and saltwater can result in skin dehydration and irritation. With higher temperatures pores also become clogged more frequently as we sweat.

Exfoliate & Repair

Fall is the time to repair skin damage accumulated during the months of summer. Exfoliation is key when evening out your skin tone and reducing the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. Get rid of dead skin cells with exfoliation. At The Medical Spa of Baton Rouge, our specialists use microdermabrasion and chemical peels to remove the outer layer of dead and damaged skin cells. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels also stimulate the production of collagen to produce firmer and younger looking skin.

Hydrate Your Skin

Fall weather is a transition between the hot, humid days of the summer to the cold, dry days of the winter. As we transition into the fall and winter months, you need to make sure your skin is staying hydrated. You should drink plenty of water to allow your body to hydrate your skin from the inside out naturally. Look into changing from a light moisturizing lotion to a thicker moisturizing cream to lock in moisture lost in the colder dry air of the fall and winter.

Don't Forget the Sunscreen

You may feel like you don’t need to use sunscreen once the summer is over or if it is a cloudy day. It may surprise you that the sun’s ray a still harmful even during cooler, darker days. Play it safe by wearing sunscreen every day to reduce the aging process of your skin. Try to stick to at least SPF 15 sunscreens to protect your skin.
